Aciérie, grange & charcuterie (2/3)

Dans la rue Paul Lafargue, aussi bien
à gauche qu'à droite, on travaille et
on travaille dur. Droit à la paresse,
c'est oublié depuis longtemps : usine
métallurgique, canal à grand gabarit,
arbres abattus, champs de betteraves,
blés moissonnés. Les toits de granges
couvent la nourriture. Leurs fenêtres
poussiéreuses ne nous regardent plus.

as well on the right, the work is hard, and
the work is long. The Right to Idle
is long unremembered here : the
metalworks, the mighty canal,
the felled trees, the beetfields,
the corn stubble. The roofs of the barns
brood over their stores. The dusty
windows stare unseeing.

In de Rue Paul Lafargue, links
zowel als rechts, werkt men en
men werkt hard. Recht op luiheid,
dat kent men hier al lang niet meer:
metaalfabriek, industriekanaal, gevelde
bomen, bietenvelden, geoogst graan.
De voedselvoorraad in de schuren ligt
geborgen onder de daken. Ons rest alleen
de matte blik van de stoffige vensters.
