Petit moine,
trottine dans le couloir du cloître.
Tu marmonnes dans ton bec la prière du macareux :
donne-nous le crustacé quotidien.

Little monk,
pacing up and down your cloister,
mumbling your puffin prayers :
Give us this day our daily crustacean.

Moinillon moineau en habit de pingouin,
ignorant de ton destin, macareux moine,
mange-poisson dans l'éternité, qui te mangera ?
Qui imposera le silence au macareux ?
Qui te changera, macareux, en macchabée ?

Quo vadis, little bird
All done-up like a penguin ?
Fish-eater through all eternity,
Who will impose your vow of silence ?
Who will finally eat you ?
Who will call to you, Macchabeus ?
